A client from Elkhart, Indiana, brought his 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide to Cartronix for an audio system upgrade. He wanted his new system to sound good, but also to get good and loud. We developed a plan that we knew would ensure his audio system would be audible at almost any speed.
For speakers, we used two sets of Hertz SPL 165.1 6.5-inch midrange drivers and two sets of Hertz ST 25 bullet tweeters. The front fairing was relatively easy to work with. We installed the midrange drivers in the factory locations and mounted the tweeters on the small panels on either side of the radio.
Our fabricators created a set of reinforcing plates for the saddle bags. We mounted a woofer and a tweeter in each and faced them inward, toward the wheel. Using a piece of scrap mesh, we drilled about 125 holes in each bag to act as a grille for the midrange.
A Diamond Audio Micro 4 amplifier and a Cartronix Harley-Davidson wiring kit power the system. We reflashed the factory radio to eliminate the factory equalization.
The client was stunned at how loud the system played.
